This position is located in Vancouver (Burnaby), BC and reports directly to the Sr. Manager of HR Operations. We are looking for an individual with strong technical benefits knowledge who is ready to expand his/her scope of experience. The Canadian Benefits specialist is responsible for the benefit plans for approximately 500 Canadian employees across multiple provinces. The role will also include administration of our relocation and immigration function including work visas, inter-company transfers and expatriate assignments. Responsibilities
• Drive the design and development of PMC's Canadian benefit program
• Administration of our relocation and immigration function including work visas, inter-company transfers and expatriate assignments
• Conduct annual and ad hoc market benefit reviews
• Manage relationships with third party benefit plan providers including negotiation of benefits contracts to manage costs and provide a competitive benefits package
• Process and analyze monthly benefits premium statements to ensure costs are in line with past experience
• Manage disability and employee assistance programs including relationships with outsourcers
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Benefit brokers and external vendors
• Process benefit changes in HRIS & with providers; maintain forms, change packages, employee files and intranet
• Remain up to date on provincial legislative changes and make policy change recommendations accordingly
• Advise HR Business Partners, employees and department managers on a variety of benefit matters as appropriate
• Participate in and oversee benefit education both periodically (benefit fairs, e-bulletin updates) and for new hire onboarding
• Partner with Payroll to ensure consistency in compliance and tax reporting requirements
• Manage Canadian RRSP administration and compliance
• Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
• Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations
Qualifications
• 3 - 5 years experience as a benefits specialist with a strong understanding of HR policies and process flow with a proven track record of delivering success
• Must have had sole responsibility for Canadian benefit programs
• Experience with immigration and relocation is an asset
• Experience with Canadian RRSP plan administration and compliance
• Ability to make effective public speaking presentations; tactfully and courteously represent the human resources program(s) to employees, management, and external vendors;
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• Solid analytical skills and demonstrated ability to quickly and creatively apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual, complex and practical problems
• The successful candidate will be energetic, highly motivated, a quick learner with a desire to take initiative
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with an open and collaborative work style
• Strong organizational and project management capabilities
• Must thrive in a high paced, fast changing environment
• Solid experience with PeopleSoft and or other comparable HRIS systems, advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• A university degree or diploma in Business or HR is preferred
• A designation such as CHRP, CEBS, would be considered an asset
