Director, Communications and Membership Services (Montreal’s office)

CANADA WORLD YOUTH, a not-for-profit organization that gives youth the opportunity to participate in international educational exchanges designed to develop a better understanding of local and international development, is looking for:
Director, Communications and Membership Services
Montreal’s office
Purpose: Responsible for managing the Communications and membership department, including:
o Propose plans, strategies and budgets for all activities delegated to the department.
o Coordinate the central messaging of the organization.
o Coordinate the production of all electronic and print communications of organization, as well as media and public relations as required by the President and Chief
Executive Officer.
Main responsibilities:
Develop a coherent strategy for implementation of institutional communications, in accordance with established targets and within the established framework (budgets, timelines, organizational structure, technical infrastructure):
Institutional communications
o Support the President and CEO in institutional representation activities.
o Represent the organization in peer networks and events.
o Produce the annual report, news bulletins, brochures and other institutional communications.
o Prepare and update annually the Orientation Manual on policies and practices for new Board members and staff.
o Write and supervise the production of documents posted on the website.
Community relations and outreach
o Create and manage the membership (Ambassadors of CWY) program.
o Manage the database of contacts for the membership (alumni, Board, supporters, MPs, Senators, public) program.
o Collaborate with the other Directors, to deliver the required public engagement activities.
o Manage the organization’s Awards.
o Manage merchandizing.
Press relations and publicity
o Establish a plan for national and regional press relations to meet positioning targets.
o Assess communication platform options and roll out publicity actions according to desired reach and outcome.
o Pitch media according to the organization’s expertise and positioning.
Special events
o Organize special events, such as Annual general meetings, corporate cocktails, fundraising events, other anniversary events, etc.
Sponsorship management
o Support the President and CEO in preparing and implementing key fundraising strategies.
o Solicit and secure cash and in-kind sponsorships from corporations, alumni, supporters and the public.
o Coordinate the organization’s privilege initiative (ex: books, magazines, conferences, travel, car rentals, etc.).
Editorial management
o Write communication content for all platforms (speeches, web, brochures, annual report, press releases, presentation slides, etc.).
o Manage translation, language editing and platform editing.
o Manage the graphic signature of the organization (logo, graphic norms, etc.).
o Advise the President and CEO on all aspects of the organization’s communications, public and corporate affairs.
Skills, knowledge and attitudes sought:
o Master’s degree in communications, international relations, marketing, business or another related field.
o Five (5) years of relevant experience in a similar position.
o Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite, familiarity with Web, graphics and publication software an asset.
o Internet research proficiency.
o Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, discretion and diplomacy.
o Reliable and adaptable.
o Ability to work with minimum supervision.
o Ability to work in a team.
o Excellent attention to detail and good organizational, coordination and planning skills.
o Be able to plan work to meet assigned deadlines.
o Be able to work under stress and manage work deadlines effectively.
o Ability to direct information to the target audience, while taking into account the different mediums available to transmit the message.
o Ability to prioritize and focus on the tasks at hand.
o Openness to undertake new challenges.
o Experience in fundraising essential.
Essential conditions:
o Bilingualism – English/French.
o Excellent writing skills.
o Ability to travel in Canada and internationally.
