LOCATION: MONTREAL, QUEBEC
A. INTRODUCTION
Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) is a humanitarian not-for-profit relief and development organization dedicated to improving access to medicine and enhancing health in the developing world. HPIC contributes to well-being by providing donations of essential medicines, supplies and vaccines, building national health sector capacities, and responding to emergencies and health threats. We partner with a network of ministries of health, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and healthcare professionals, with healthcare product companies, and with Canadian government departments.
CURRENTLY HPIC IS SEEKING A FREELANCE COPY EDITOR FOR A SHORT TERM CONTRACT. Details follow:
The goal of the Capacity Building and Access to Medicines (CBAM) project is to support the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Afghanistan to effectively ensure greater and more equitable access to priority pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for all Afghans with a specific emphasis on women and children. Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) is the implementing partner in the CBAM project. Project publications written over the course of the past 2 years are in need of basic to medium copy editing.
B. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Education: Degree or diploma in English, journalism, communications or a related field
• Work Experience: 1-2 years of related experience
• Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail
• Excellent command of the English language
• Working knowledge of Canadian Press Stylebook
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word
C. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Edit and revise copy 3 HPIC -- CBAM publications (totalling 155 pages) using Canadian Press Stylebook
• Identify and correct typographical errors, grammar, punctuation, consistency, tone, flow, diction, syntax (sentence structure), word economy and clarity.
D. WORK ARRANGEMENTS
• No office space or computer is provided. Work is to be done remotely.
E. TIMEFRAME
• All work must be completed by Friday September 30, 2011.
F. COMPENSATION
• To be decided based on submitted quote.
G. DEADLINES
• Applications must be submitted to HPIC by August 15, 2011 by 5:00 PM EST to cgiulietti@hpicanada.ca
